A man was seriously injured in an assault near Rotherham on Easter Sunday.

South Yorkshire Police were called to reports of a disturbance on Scovell Avenue in Rawmarsh at 19:30 BST.

A 39-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening or life-altering, the force said.

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody.
