Boy, 14, dies after car and e-bike crash
Derbyshire PoliceA 14-year-old boy has died after a crash involving an electric bike and a car that also saw a 15-year-old boy sustain serious injuries.
Derbyshire Police said Finley Dawson was riding an electric bike in Newbold Road, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, with a 15-year-old passenger at about 20:30 GMT on Thursday when it collided with a Kia Sportage.
The force said the boys were thrown from the electric bike into the road and were taken to hospital, where Dawson died on Friday. The pillion passenger remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Officers said no arrests had been made and the driver of the Kia was being treated as a witness.
A joint statement from the families of both boys, released by police, said: "There is a reason these bikes are banned from the road, and devastatingly Finley has paid the ultimate price in losing his life.
"His friend has sustained serious injuries and has to come to terms with growing up without his best mate.
"Although the thrill of riding an e-bike on the road seems exciting, it can also be fatal.
"That quick thrill, is not worth the risk."
