Young people will be able to vote for their next Youth MPs as a city prepares for elections in the coming days.

Anyone aged between 11 and 18 can cast their ballot in schools and colleges from 16 to 20 March, as well as at a polling station at Peterborough Town Hall on Thursday 19 March.

The winning candidate will give their views "at a local, regional and national level through the UK Youth Parliament," Peterborough City Council said.

Labour councillor Katy Cole, cabinet member for children's services, said that as the city has a young demographic, she wanted youth voices to be heard.

During the election period, young people can also take part in the Your Voice, Your Choice vote by choosing one topic out of 10.

The three most popular choices will become the Youth Council's campaign themes for the next two years.

Danielle and Pranav have been the city's Youth MPs since 2024.

Cole added: "With 16-year-olds being entitled to vote at the next General Election, it is vitally important that young people get involved in their local communities and champion the opinion of the young people in this city.

"Here in Peterborough, our population has a large young demographic and we want their voices to get heard.

"Let's encourage Peterborough's young people to get involved with local politics and vote on which candidates resonate with them the most."
