  2. Why it took a week to get video of the person at Guthrie's doorpublished at 07:38 GMT 11 February

Law enforcement officials initially said they couldn't retrieve footage from Nancy Guthrie's doorbell camera because she didn't subscribe to a particular service.

She had a Google Nest doorbell – according to a clip now made public – which provides 30 days of video history with a subscription, but just three hours of footage without it.

The video, released by the FBI on Tuesday, shows a masked person tampering with the camera on the morning of her disappearance.

Authorities did not explicitly state how they eventually managed to get the video, but according to Google's privacy policy, footage from all its devices is sent back to the company. This means Google should be able to retrieve specific videos.

FBI director Kash Patel told Fox News this evening that by working with partners in the private sector, the FBI were able to lawfully "go into their systems and actually excavate material that people would think would normally be deleted and no-one would look for."

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters that she and President Donald Trump have reviewed the surveillance footage.

Leavitt says Trump's initial reaction was one of "pure disgust".

"The president directed me to please encourage all Americans with any information to call the FBI," Leavitt tells reporters.

"Once again, I will reiterate that the prayers of this entire White House are with Savannah and her family at this time," Leavitt says.

Trump had previously described the case as "very unusual" and ordered federal authorities to help in the investigation.

"They're just invading my property," she is quoted as saying by CBS.

"I told him (an investigator) they're going in and out of my house, taking a lot of pictures and everything.

"I told him, we're not hiding anything. I gave him permission. You can go and search and there's nothing in my house. You won't find anything because we don't have nothing to hide," she says.

  7. Experts analyse video of masked person on Nancy Guthrie's doorsteppublished at 05:53 GMT 11 February

The footage released by the FBI may have "spurred someone to come forward with critical information" that has led to the detention of a person of interest, former FBI agent Michael Harrington tells the BBC.

Harrington says the video, which shows a masked person at Nancy Guthrie's doorstep the day she disappeared, shows the person "didn't plan out very well how he was going to conceal a view of the camera".

"This could indicate that this individual was not very well-versed in this type of activity," he tells the BBC's Newsday programme.

However, Mary Ellen O’Toole, a former FBI profiler, says that the video shows someone who was able to quickly adapt because of prior experience.

“You can only get that calmness from two things: your personality and your experience being in situations like this before,” she tells CNN.
