Graphic: Hallowe'en pumpkin lantern instructions

Remember to ask an adult to help if you want to try this. Knives can be very sharp.

Instructions:

To make a Halloween lantern you'll need:

1 pumpkin
1 marker pen
1 candle or a torch
1 sharp knife or pumpkin carving kit
1 sheet of A4 paper
1 tablespoon
1 bowl

Draw your lantern's design onto the sheet of paper first. Experiment with different faces until you're happy with what you've drawn.

Step 2
When you've decided on the one you want to use, draw your design onto the skin of the pumpkin.

Ask an adult to cut out your design. Start by just cutting off the top of the pumpkin. Do this carefully so you can put the top back on, once you have made the face.

Scoop out the flesh (you might want to keep this for a pumpkin recipe) and then cut out the mouth, nose and eyes.

Once you've cut out the face, you can then light the pumpkin with a candle or a torch. If using a candle ask an adult to help you light it. REMEMBER - never play with matches.

Carefully put the lid back on the pumpkin, turn out the lights and enjoy your lantern.
