Felix Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3 ‘Scottish’

Conductor Nil Venditti joins Royal Northern Sinfonia and violinist Maria Włoszczowska at the Glasshouse in Gateshead to perform music by Anna Clyne, Prokofiev and Mendelssohn.

Royal Northern Sinfonia, conducted by Nil Venditti, join forces with violinist Maria Włoszczowska for a concert of vivid contrasts. The programme begins with «rewind« by Anna Clyne, a propulsive and atmospheric opener. At its centre is Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2, full of sharp wit, lyrical beauty and sudden, unpredictable twists. The evening concludes with Felix Mendelssohn’s ‘Scottish’ Symphony, sweeping from misty mystery to windswept grandeur - a journey of spiky brilliance and Romantic atmosphere.

Presented by Mark Forrest at The Glasshouse, Gateshead, and recorded on 6th March 2026.
