What's new for 2001
During the winter months the building industry has been busy working overtime to create even more cool bars and hotels for us lot to hang out in this summer. This year the island seems to have given birth to more new bars than ever before with a definite nod toward quality. Naturally, we checked them out...
Coastline
Where is it?: Around the bay from Mambo right next to Kanya and Kasbah What's it like?: Swanky. No, double swanky. The swimming pools and Jacuzzi will keep the midday sun from roasting your rocks off, whilst the chilled out soundtrack keeps the toes a tappin'. What parties do they have on? God's Kitchen, Cream, Hed Kandi and Sunday Roast Who are you likely to bump in to?: Norman Cook drops in occasionally, Fergie virtually lives above it and Paul Van Dyk has been seen eating in there many times. Luxury is the key and the stars just seem to be lapping it up
Bahia Hotel
Where is it? San Antonio Bay What's it like?: Nice. Very Nice. Ran by Ministry of Sound, Bahia is the place all the media darlings are hanging out this summer. All rooms are equipped with MP3 players and TVs with a small kitchen boasting microwaves ovens, toasters and a kettle for that early morning cup of tea What parties do they have on?: Ministry of Sound DJs play by the pool every night Who are you likely to bump in to?: Superstar DJs, promoters and clubbers.
Sugar Sea
Where is it? Four doors to the right of Mambo and on the opposite corner to Savannah What's it like?: Small, white and neon by night. Musically the bar is trying to distant itself from the nearby Savannah and Mambo by sticking to a strict chilled and funky soundtrack What parties do they have on?: Just Back II Basics so far Who are you likely to bump in to?: No-one in particular. In a very busy strip Sugar Sea has lots of competition and may struggle to make any impact this season
Manumission Diner
Where is it?: Situated on the port in Ibiza town just before Rock Bar and Base What's it like?: Pulp Fiction meets South Pacific. Ultra cool design based around this year's Good Ship Manumission theme. Open for 22 hours a day, it serves as a perfect pre and post club hangout for those who like their post-clubbing waffles What parties do they have on?: Manumission have their own pre party there whilst, other nights include a Salsa night and a Spanish disco night Who are you likely to bump in to?: Being Manumission you should expect the unexpected. In one night you may catch Norm and Zoe having a drinking, whilst Danny Tenaglia and Jade Jagger join Mike and Claire as they parade beautiful sailor boys and girls through the Streets of Ibiza Town
Quid Pro Quo (QPQ)
Where is it?: Four kilometers from San Antonio on the main road to Ibiza What's it like?: Small on the inside but a spacious garden makes up for that. It's the place to go at eight in the morning as all clubs are kicking out, but make sure you nab the hammock before anyone else does What parties do they have on?: Judgement Sunday, Garlands and Charlie Chester have regular after parties Who are you likely to bump in to?: You name them, they've all been down there at some point this year. Jules, John Kelly and Fergie put in regular appearance, whilst Jade Jagger, the Manumissions and all the usual suspacts on the island have been spotted hanging out
