Space closing party t Ibiza closing parties
Updated: 07 September
Ibiza's closing parties are now in full swing. X-Press 2 bade farewell to the summer at Pacha's Boutique's gig, while Carl Cox and Danny Rampling were among the big DJ names at Renaissance at Privilege. Flower Power at the Global Room, Trade at Privilege and Twice As Nice at Es Paradis all came to an end last night (Thurs) and tonight sees the end of the season for Miami at Eden, with guest DJs Pete Gooding and Jon Ulysses on the decks.
Meanwhile, superclub Space has big plans for its closing party at the end of the month. It's promising "something monumentally outrageous" on 30th September to mark the end of the summer season, with Carl Cox, Sven Vath, Timo Maas and Mark Spoon on the line-up. The We Love Sundays At Space closing bash is on September 23rd, with sets from Danny Tenaglia, Laurent Garnier, Reche and Steve Lawler. And the Manumission closing party takes place on the 25th, with Ministry at the Terrace's closing event on September 29th.
Clubbers take over the island
Updated: 12 September
Family package holidays could be a dying breed in Ibiza. Thomsons are pulling out of some hotels in Playa de Bossa, after complaints from family clients about noise caused by clubbers.
And while more clubbing might be good news for us, it seems that the people who live and work there would rather win the family crowd back.
Ibiza’s local paper, ‘The Ibiza Sun’ reports that Es Canar’s residents don’t want the San Antonio style nightlife to spread any further in their traditionally quiet village.
Suspect fire
Updated: 12 September
Hot on the heels of last week’s storms, Ibiza has been hit by a forest fire. It took three fire-fighting planes several hours to control the blaze in the Buscatell area of San Antonio on Sunday.
Their efforts provided quite a spectacle for holidaymakers in the resort, as the planes scooped up water from the bay to pour over the fire.
After all the heavy rain of previous days, police are keen to find out how the fire started.
Stormy White Isle
Updated: 07 September
Ibiza was hit by the second major storm of the season this week. Clubbers were spotted riding lilos down the hill in the West End, chairs were blown across Coastline and DJ Fergie missed his flight back to the UK because of it on Wednesday. Back in July, Ibiza saw massive storms which flooded Judge Jules' new convertible motor and left most of Ibiza without electricity for a day.
Retro-tastic
Updated: 04 September
It seems even the White Isle is being gripped by 80s nostalgia fever. Among this year’s dance floor faves is ‘Dub Tropicana’, a remix of Wham’s ‘Club Tropicana’. Pete Tong gave it his official seal of approval by opening his set with it at the start of the Radio 1 Ibiza weekend.
All of this must please George Michael no end, who has apparently been spotted at Bora Bora beach according to gossip on the net.
There is even a ‘Retro’ night at Eden which features all things Old Skool. Organisers are planning to give it an even bigger profile next year, inviting DJs like Judge Jules to play a set or two.
Ibiza’s oldest fan
Updated: 04 September
Living proof that you're never too old to rave is 83 year-old Sir Jack Leslie, who is on his way to Ibiza. He says he only discovered clubbing three years ago, so he can't wait to get out there and try Manumission.
And for ladies who like older men, Sir Jack may be Ibiza’s most eligible bachelor this year. He lives in his own castle in County Monaghan, Ireland and loves travelling all over the world to party hot-spots.
But you’ll have to fight to win his affection because as Sir Jack revealed to The Daily Record, he’s used to getting lots of female attention: "For some reason, they like to take my hat off and grab my tie."

Jaxx Rendez-Vous at Privilege
Updated: 31 August
Basement Jaxx treated thousands of Ibiza clubbers to an extravagant live stage show at Privilege as part of MTV's Ibiza Festival last night (Thurs). The lads, who were joined on stage by colourful feather-costumed Brazilian dancers, played a slow version of 'Rendez-vous', a rendition of 'Romeo', and Felix had a turn at rapping, filling in for their regular MC.
Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry and Faithless headlined the night, which also saw Carl Cox and Mauro Picotto on the line-up. The Stanton Warriors, who kicked off the Festival with a pre-party at San Antonio's Coastline bar, also headlined the after-party at Space.
Poolside party for Ibiza workers
Updated: 31 August
Liverpool-based club night Garlands plan to host a closing party for workers in Ibiza. The all-day poolside party will take place at San Antonio's Bahia Hotel on Tuesday September 11th.
There'll be free drinks and a barbecue at the funky house event, which Judge Jules, Alex P and Brandon Block have been asked to play at. Garlands' Tuesday night residency in the Mixmag backroom of Eden was one of the most popular nights with workers on the White Isle and promoter, Barry McDonald, told ananova.com that the free party is to say a big 'thank you' to Ibiza workers for their support over the summer.
Jay Kay at the Base
Updated: 28 August
Jay Kay has been spotted breakdancing at Ibiza Town’s Base Bar. Apparently he was so good even the performers who parade in the port stopped to admire his moves. He kept dancing for five minutes on the terrace and drew quite a crowd.
The Base has enjoyed a higher profile recently with well known DJs like Erick Morillo, Lisa Loud and Brandon Block dropping in last week. They were there to celebrate the release of ‘Base Ibiza’, a CD including tracks by X-Press 2 and Kings of Tomorrow.
Road rage
Updated: 28 August
Ibiza’s residents are seeing red over the infamous road that links San Antonio and Ibiza Town. They are finding it impossible to get to work on time because clubbers are clogging up the system.
It's also claimed the new set of traffic lights has not improved the situation because they don’t work between 7am and 9am when most people are leaving the clubs.
Ibizan tourist tax
Updated: 24 August
If your Ibizan experience burnt a large hole in your pocket, take heart, because it could be worse next year. The islands of Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca are planning to impose a tourist tax on their visitors.
Fortunately, the Spanish government is stepping in on our behalf. It says the tax plans are illegal under the country's constitution and that it's confident of winning a legal battle to prove it.
MTV Ibiza fest at Privilege
Updated: 22 August
MTV's on-off Ibiza festival is finally going ahead on August 29th at Privilege. The club will be completely transformed for the night to host a star-studded line-up including Roger Sanchez, Basement Jaxx and Faithless.
Their original plan to stage the festival at San Rafael's Hippodrome was met with hostility from residents. The feelings against it were so strong that the Mayor of San Antonio refused to grant a licence. Undeterred, MTV relocated to Ibiza's biggest club, Privilege.
Puffy suit for DJ Harvey
Updated: 16 August
Puff Daddy has treated DJ Harvey to a suit from his clothing range after hearing him play in Ibiza last week. Puffy was so impressed by Harvey's set at the Angels of Love - Revolucion event at Space, he gave him a Sean Jean outfit! In return, Harvey gave the rapper the t-shirt he was wearing when he was playing!
Fatboy's surprise Circo Loco set
Updated: 16 August
Meanwhile, DJ Harvey played a sunset session alongside Fatboy Slim at San Antonio's Coastline bar, before Fatboy went on to surprise clubbers at Ibiza's DC10 club.
Norman's 2 hour set kicked off at 8am at the Circo Loco event and included Laurent Garnier's 'Acid Eiffel', Harvey's remix of 'Planet Funk's Chase The Sun' and his own hit 'Bird Of Prey'.
MTV Ibiza fest latest
Updated: 15 August
MTV says it's very confident its Ibiza Festival, headlined by Faithless and Roger Sanchez, will be given the go-ahead.
The event's still awaiting a licence for the Hippodrome race track in San Rafael, amidst growing resentment from the island's residents, and San Antonio's Mayor says he'll ban the festival if concerns over damage to the area aren't resolved. But MTV say it's still set to go ahead on August 29th.
Sasha powerless in Space
Updated: 15 August
Sasha's set at Space at the weekend was disrupted by a power cut. The DJ was on the decks in the packed main room for The We Love Space On Sundays event celebrating Space's 13th birthday, when the power cut out, forcing clubbers to leave the venue for about an hour.
Earlier on, Puff Daddy was dancing behind the decks on the Terrace with Erick Morillo. Neneh Cherry was also at the 22-hour event.
Puffy's party antics at Cream
Updated: 13 August
Puff Daddy's requested a special VIP area to be arranged at Creamfields UK for him and his entourage.
Puffy was at Creamfields Warm Up Party at Cream Amnesia in Ibiza last Thurs night, where he jumped from the VIP balcony into the crowd and showered people with champagne!
His entourage then gave bottles away to the excited clubbers. Later, he was podium dancing and at sunrise he asked for the mic for a spot of Mc'ing during US DJ Sandra Collins' set, but was politely turned down and so returned to the dancefloor!
Todd Terry Rocs Bora Bora
Updated: 13 August
Todd Terry teamed up with his label signing, Ray Roc and Mathias for a set alongside Ibiza beach disco, Bora Bora, last week. Hundreds of clubbers turned out at the hardcore beachside bar for an afternoon set from the DJ legend.
Spoilt sunsets
Updated: 09 August
Punters who come to watch the sunset at Cafe Del Mar and Cafe Mambo have been getting hot under the collar lately.
Glass-bottomed tourist boats have been turning up and spoiling their view at the crucial moment. Some regulars are so annoyed they are launching a campaign to persuade the boats to drop anchor further up the coast.
X-Press 2 rock Underwater
Updated: 10 August
Boutique regulars, X-Press 2, played a storming session at Pacha's Underwater party last night (Wednesday 8th). They used six decks to keep the tunes coming and the floor pumping.
This will more than make up for Diesel missing their Underwater debut last month. He had a pretty good excuse that time - his second child was being born. X-Press 2's next Ibiza date is September 9th at Space, supported by Radio 1's Carl Cox.
MTV festival on hold
Updated: 08 August
Ibiza's residents are blocking MTV's dance festival plans for August 29th. They say it would cause too much environmental damage to the area around San Rafael's Hippodrome race track. And the Mayor of San Antonio has refused to grant a licence to the event that Faithless and Roger Sanchez were expected to headline.
MTV have offered to pay six million pesetas (£22,250) for new seating in a local church in a bid to win people over. But the Neighbours' Association of San Rafael will have the final say when they make their decision later this week.
Tong takes to DC10 decks
Updated: 08 August
Clubbers at DC10 were finally treated to a set from Radio 1’s Pete Tong at Circo Loco. He had been due to perform there in July, but ‘rain stopped play’ when storms caused a power failure. Tong rocked the Monday night crowd which included Erick Morillo, Yousef and Lottie.
DC10 was dubbed club of the year by The Face magazine last year and has become this season’s favoured hang-out for the DJs.
Danny's noisy Love Groove Dance Party
Updated: 06 August
Danny Rampling's live show at Pacha was moved because of complaints about the noise, according to the Ibiza club's managers. Radio 1 listeners were informed of a change of venue for Danny's Love Groove Dance Party on Friday night. The reason given was a power failure, but according to the club the show was pulled following complaints from neighbours. Danny went on to surprise clubbers at Cafe Mambo by taking over after Pete Tong at the last minute, joined by Roger Sanchez for a half-hour mix, including summer anthem 'Another Chance'.
Kittens In Ibiza
