India dismantle Pakistan in dominant display to progress to Super 8s

A thumping victory for co-hosts India, then, who are starting to click into gear as we edge towards the end of the group stage at the T20 World Cup.

They could yet meet Pakistan in the closer to the Super 8s.

Be sure to read Matthew Henry's report on a rather one-sided contest here...

There's more T20 World Cup action right around the corner with another triple bill of games on Monday, including England v Italy at 09:30 GMT.

We will have live-text commentary of that one, with ball-by-ball coverage from the Test Match Special team at Eden Gardebs in Kolkata.

In the meantime here's some other cricket stories might take your fancy:

    See you soon.

Kishan scores quickfire 77 for India

India captain Suryakumar Yadav: "This is for India! We played the same brand of cricket that we wanted to play. The way Ishan Kishan batted is the same as he did in our previous games and on the domestic circuit. Ishan thought outside the box and took responsibility in the powerplay."

On if the score was par: "It's difficult to tell when we bat first because there may have been dew but as soon as we got 175 we thought we were 20 runs above par.

"We were taking chances from ball one. Jasprit Bumrah showed why he is the best bowler in the world. It was great to see everyone contributing."

On the next steps: "We'll think about that tomorrow. Now we'll go back and have a good time."

That was a special innings from Ishan Kishan. He was the only batter who could time the ball on that surface and to recognise that and carry on was impressive.

'Extraordinary over' from Bumrah ends with Agha being caught for four

Pakistan captain Salman Agha: "Our spinners had an off day today. We always believe in them because they have done well in the last six months. In the first innings it was tacky and the ball was gripping, but the execution was missing.

"Then with our batting we lost wickets and the powerplay and that cost us. We didn't apply ourselves to go deep into the game. I actually thought the pitch was better for batting in the second innings.

"In these games the emotions are going to be high but we have played enough cricket. We need to get ourselves together and look to the game in a few days times. You have to see the big picture. We need to qualify for the Super 8s now."

  5. 'Gives us confidence'published at 17:03 GMT

    Media caption,

Kishan scores quickfire 77 for India

Player of the Match Ishan Kishan: "The wicket wasn't easy in the beginning but you have to believe in your shots and your strengths. I was making them run as much as they can and it worked on my side. I did work on my offside game. I was trying to hit in the gaps because it's a big boundary.

"India v Pakistan is a special game for us and our country. It is a very important game. They had good spinners and we tried to play good shots. It gives us confidence going ahead in the tournament."

On the India seamers: "They bowled tremendously well. I didn't feel the ball was doing much for pace but there were two beautiful overs from Jasprit Bumrah so a plus point for us. Credit to Hardik Pandya for executing his plans as well."

India adapted so well to the conditions. They are the best team in the world.

Ishan Kishan was outstanding and really set the tone at the top of the order, it looked like he was batting on a different surface and made everything look easy.

    A dominant display from India.

That should have been taken. This is getting a little bit sloppy from India.

I know India are going to win here but they could have and should have bowled Pakistan out for less than 100.

It's been a bit of a horror show for Pakistan and it all started in the powerplay. India have come to Colombo, adjusted well and this is turning into an exhibition performance from the Indians.

It really has been dismal by Pakistan today.
