The round of batters falling just shy of centuries continued again today.

The most dramatic being the unfortunate Mason Crane who fell on 99 to miss out on his maiden first-class ton in the same game in which two of his team-mates were dismissed in the 90s and Jake Weatherald was dropped on 97 before retiring hurt after scraping past his 100.

At Derby, Will Williams was out just short of a maiden first-class ton - two runs short in fact.

Meanwhile Joe Clarke departed in the penultimate over of day two on 94 as the champions, eight down, remain well behind at home to Warwickshire.

  3. Close of play at Trent Bridgepublished at 18:53 BST 25 April

    Notts 264-8 v Warks 459

Something of a mini-collapse at the end of the final session has left Notts facing a difficult day three, still trailing by 195 runs with just two first innings wickets standing.

Ben Duckett (62) and Joe Clarke (94) will be left wondering what might have been given they were well-set and rather gift-wrapped their wickets.

Duckett fell for an occasional spin trap, mistiming a drive he had no need to go for just short of tea and Joe Clarke has pulled his way into a well-flagged trap just short of the close.

Nightwatchman Dillon Pennington fell first ball and then Liam Patterson-White tumbled in the last act of the night to leave Notts eight down.

MIchael Booth started the day with a burst of runs from the bat, firing Warks to a fifth bonus point, and ended it with 3-59 with the ball including Clarke and Pennington in consecutive balls.

  4. Close of play at the Riversidepublished at 18:48 BST 25 April

    Durham 295 v Lancs 370

Some solid partnerships down between Ben Raine and Matthew Potts (44), Potts and James Minto (49), and, best of all, Potts and Callum Parkinson who added 78 for the final wicket.

So from having sight of the finishing line with Durham 124-7 it felt like Lancs were informed they had another circuit to go.

Frustration will be the over-riding feeling in the away dressing room despite them going into the second half of this match with a 75 run lead.

Tom Bailey was the pick of the Lancs bowlers with 3-68 but there were two wicket hauls for both Jimmy Anderson and Mitch Stanley as well.

    Patterson-White c Yates b Webster 5 (Notts 264-8 v Warks 459)

Beau Webster has a first wicket to dismiss Liam Patterson-White who edges to slip. Rob Yates takes a good catch to his left.

  6. Close of play at New Roadpublished at 18:42 BST 25 April

    Worcestershire 441-9 v Kent 196 - Worcs lead by 245 runs

Kent can't take the final Pears wicket and the hosts will continue batting in the morning in the form of Matthew Waite (52*) and Olly Hannon-Dalby (0*).

Worcestershire have had big batting contributions throughout the eleven with D'Oliveira (90), Hose (75) and Libby (52) grabbing half-centuries alongside Waite, which has pushed their lead up to 245.

It's been another tough day for Kent but a special word of praise for Matt Milnes who scored 50 with the bat yesterday and took 4-81 today.

Worcestershire will be aiming to stretch that lead in the morning to the point where they may only need to bat once.

  7. wicket

DURHAM 295 ALL OUTpublished at 18:42 BST 25 April

Potts lbw b Bailey 66 (Durham trail by 75 runs)

Matthew Potts finally falls as Tom Bailey gets one to straighten a touch and that is the end of play for the day with Lancashire leading by 75.

  8. Close of play at the Ovalpublished at 18:40 BST 25 April

    Surrey 192-3 v Essex 409 - Surrey trail by 217

The perfect situation for Dom Sibley today.

Having conceded a big first-innings total by Essex, Surrey needed solidity at the top of the order and after the early loss of Rory Burns, Sibley has provided it.

He has 74 not out from 199 balls and shared a 58-run stand with Dan Lawrence (38) to the close following the dismissal of Ollie Pope for 69.

Lawrence earlier took 3-0 in seven balls as Essex's first innings came to a rapid conclusion following a good innings of 64 by Noah Thain.

  9. No hat-trick for Boothpublished at 18:39 BST 25 April

    Notts 257-7 v Warks 459

Liam Patterson-White defends solidly punching a good length delivery out to mid off where Ethan Bamber picks up the ball.

No hat-trick for Michael Booth but a double strike which has rocked Notts close to the close of play.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:38 BST 25 April

    Pennington lbw b Booth 0 (Notts 257-7 v Warks 459)

And we have a hat-trick ball coming up as Dillon Pennington is pinned lbw first ball by Michael Booth.

  11. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:35 BST 25 April

    Clarke c Malik b Booth 94 (Notts 257-6 v Warks 459)

Joe Clarke has fallen one hit short of his century.

It was a fairly obvious set up with two men back at deep square leg and a half hearted pull has picked out Zen Malik 10 yards inside the rope.

  12. 50 runs

50 Matthew Waitepublished at 18:35 BST 25 April

    Worcestershire 439-9 v Kent 196

Not much time left, but just enough for Matthew Waite to reach 50.

He's a very reliable source of lower order runs for the Pears.

Worcs' lead is 245 and we're into the last knockings of the day.

  13. Postpublished at 18:31 BST 25 April

    Surrey 191-3 v Surrey 409

Matt Critchley is given another bowl by Essex late in the day. Dan Lawrence cuts, but doesn't 'get all of it' and has to settle for two runs.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 18:28 BST 25 April

    Taylor b Evison 37 (Worcestershire 435-9 v Kent 196)

Pears tailender Tom Taylor goes the same way as the previous wicket of Beyers Swanepoel as he plays onto his stumps.

It was quite a wide delivery and the tall figure of Taylor drags it back on a fair distance - much to Joey Evison's joy.

Nonetheless a very useful 37 from Taylor alongside Matthew Waite.

Olly Hannon-Dalby us the last man in with 3.5 overs left in the day.

  15. Stumps at Headingleypublished at 18:21 BST 25 April

    Yorkshire 192-1 v Sussex 502 - Yorkshire trail by 310

Finlay Bean and Sam Whiteman end the day with an unbroken partnership of 175.

Bean reached his century a short time before close of play and will resume tomorrow on 102, with Whiteman on 73.

The only wicket to fall for Yorkshire being Adam Lyth for six in the tenth over.

A good response from Yorkshire but such is Sussex's massive score they still trail by over 300.

  16. Close of play at Cardiffpublished at 18:20 BST 25 April

    Glam 440 v Leic 211-1

A day for batting then, but not just batters doing the batting.

Mason Crane's wild shot on 99 will live long in the memory, but he has bowled 11 wicketless overs since that horror dismissal.

Leicestershire were 167-0 in reply before Rishi Patel (79) was well caught by Eddie Byrom trying to slog sweep the part-time spin of Kiran Carlson.

Jake Weatherald had a couple of lucky escapes but did get to his century off 114 balls before oddly showing the fastest ever walk off retiring hurt I have ever seen!

Josh Davey (9*) kept Ian Holland (16*) company to the close, honours still fairly even in this one then, day three will be moving day.

  17. Postpublished at 18:20 BST 25 April

    Yorkshire 191-1 v Sussex 502

Into the last over at Headingley.

There have only been five wickets all day which tells you that the pitch is certainly one for the batters.

Another road at Surrey. Wonder if the pitch inspectors will have anything to say about it. Course they won't. It's Surrey

    David, Hampshire

Excuse my curmudgeonliness, but can we focus on the future? Anderson and Woakes doing well is lovely, but I'm already tired of the 'pick them for England' comments and it's still only April. Could be a long season for me...

    Louis, London

Introducing the word 'curmudgeonliness' into the live text page at this hour of the day is a fine effort, Louis.

  19. Close of play in Derbypublished at 18:17 BST 25 April

    Derbyshire 144-3 v Gloucestershire 498

Will Williams has the biggest shout for man of the match already.

After shockingly calling for a two that was never there and running himself out for a career-best 98, he then took the second wicket to fall as he, Gabe Bell and Graeme van Buuren all took scalps before the close.

Do not forget Henry Brookes' 89 alongside Williams earlier too, he sadly left the field with a yet unexplained injury after just five overs of bowling.

Wayne Madsen scored yet another Derbyshire 50 in his first competitive bat since that agonising injury in Italy's first World Cup match. His current partner Martin Andersson sleeps on 12*.

  20. 100 runs

100 for Finlay Beanpublished at 18:16 BST 25 April

    Yorkshire 189-1 v Sussex 502

Finlay Bean reaches his century in 169 with 13 fours and one six helping him reach the milestone.

He is the second centurion of the game after Sussex's John Simpson.
