Barrow head coach Andy Whing says his team is not scoring enough goals after watching them go down to a 3-0 home defeat by Tranmere Rovers.

The Bluebirds were on top in the first half but could not score, before a free-kick and two penalties in the second half secured the points for the visitors.

The result means Barrow are now without a win in six league games and have lost three of their last four in League Two.

"We put some fantastic balls into the box, we got into good areas again, but we don't score enough goals in terms of our attacking players," Whing told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"Unfortunately that has again cost us in the first half when we were on top. We have to score."

Barrow remain in 18th, four points above the relegation places, and they have scored only 18 goals in league 19 games, with the Tranmere loss being the eighth in which they have failed to score this season.

Only eight of those goals have been scored in the first half of games, with Whing unhappy about his side's inability to take hold of matches.

"We just don't seem to get off the mark and score that early goal," he said. "Every time we've scored the first goal this season, we've won, bar the Barnet game, where we had a sending off.

"We haven't done that enough and we also give ourselves a mountain to climb."
