London City Lionesses came from behind to thrash bottom side Leicester City, ending their five-game winless streak in the WSL.

Shannon O'Brien gave Leicester an unlikely lead after 30 minutes when she latched onto Lucia Corrales' poor pass in a dangerous area and poked into the bottom corner.

Corrales made up for her error two minutes later when her angled cross into the box flew over Leicester goalkeeper Olivia Clark.

Isobel Goodwin then thumped home from close range as Leicester failed to clear Delphine Cascarino's teasing ball into the box.

The hosts made sure of the victory in the second half, with Malou Marcetto netting their third from a few yards out as Corrales added an assist to her earlier goal.

In the closing minutes, Grace Geyoro scored her first London City goal, slotting into the bottom corner, before Freya Godfrey reacted quickest to prod home for the fifth.

The result means London City are seventh in the table, while Leicester remain four points from safety at the bottom.

Leicester analysis: Foxes edge closer to danger

Before the match, Leicester boss Rick Passmoor said his side had "four cup finals" as they bid to avoid relegation to WSL 2.

Despite going ahead, they were unable to build on their advantage, and London City won their first match since 1 February to move level on points with Brighton.

Clark made five saves, her most in a game since February. She pushed Nikita Parris' shot over the bar when it looked destined for the top corner, but it was one of few highlights.

Things continue to look bleak for Leicester. The men's side were relegated earlier this week and it could be a double relegation, with the women's side winless since they beat London City at home in December.

The Foxes have lost eight consecutive games, their longest winless streak since a run of 10 games from May 2022 to December 2022.

They have also failed to win a single game when trailing at half-time in the WSL this season, as well as conceding 19 first-half goals in 19 games, more than any other side in the league.

For the time being, Leicester edge closer to a relegation play-off away from home against the team that finishes third in the WSL 2.

What's next for these teams?

London City travel to Tottenham on Sunday, 3 May (12:00 BST) while Leicester are back in WSL action on Wednesday, 29 April against Arsenal (19:00 BST).
