Wrexham were hosting Norwich City in a league game for the first time since September 1981
Norwich City's resurgence under Philippe Clement continued as they ended Wrexham's five-game winning run in a Championship match that was delayed for around 20 minutes due to a medical emergency in the crowd.
Tunisia international Anis Ben Slimane notched his first goal of the season to put Norwich ahead early on at Stok Cae Ras.
Wrexham improved after that setback - with Sam Smith's fifth goal of the campaign bringing them level.
But following the delay, Jovon Makama bagged his 13th goal of the season as Norwich stretched their unbeaten away run in the league to four matches.
Phil Parkinson's men drop to 10th in the table after seeing their 10-game unbeaten run at home in the Championship come to an end.
Norwich remain 22nd, but are just one point adrift of safety.
Such has been the Canaries' improvement under Belgian Clement, Parkinson warned that Norwich would be a different prospect to the one Wrexham beat 3-2 at Carrow Road in September.
And the visitors made a dream start as they went ahead after just nine minutes when debutant Ali Ahmed picked out Slimane, who coolly guided his strike beyond Arthur Okonkwo from 12 yards out.
Ahmed - who joined the Norfolk outfit from Vancouver Whitecaps earlier this month - almost went from provider to scorer three minutes later as his curling strike rattled the Wrexham crossbar.
The Red Dragons settled after that rocky spell and saw Josh Windass volley Nathan Broadhead's cross wide midway through the first half, but they levelled just a minute later.
Max Cleworth, fresh from signing a new contract with the club, crossed to Smith who guided his header into the far corner for his third goal in as many league games.
Parkinson's men were firmly on top by this point, but Smith could only head Windass' cross over as the game remained finely poised going into the break.
Play was halted just five minutes into the second half due to a medical emergency in the home end of the ground.
When play resumed, Norwich started on the front foot and should have regained the lead as Makama was played through on goal, only to be denied by goalkeeper Okonkwo from close range.
But Makama made no mistake three minutes later as the visitors produced a sublime counter attack that saw captain Kenny McLean thread through to Makama and his low, drilled shot flew beyond Okonkwo.
With their impressive unbeaten home record under serious threat, Parkinson sent on Matty James, Ollie Rathbone, Ryan Barnett and top scorer Kieffer Moore with just over 20 minutes left to play.
Makama and George Thomason both missed the target with efforts as the home side pushed for a late equaliser.
Wrexham appeared destined to make it 2-2 three minutes from time as Thomason crossed to Broadhead, but the Wales international's effort was superbly kept out by Vladan Kovacevic to ensure the Canaries clinched victory.

Analysis: Josh who?
Norwich were once again without Josh Sargent as the USA international continues to push for a move away from the club.
But it was a case of "Makama again Ole Ole" for the travelling supporters as the 21-year-old continued his stunning run of form.
Since Clement's first game in charge of the Canaries on 22 November, the forward has scored 10 goals in 12 games, more than any other Championship player across all competitions during that period.
For Wrexham, all is not lost after a first home defeat in the Championship since losing 3-1 to Queens Park Rangers on 13 September.
They remain within striking distance of the play-off places and could yet delve into the transfer window to further bolster their options while injured players are continuing to return to the fold.
But this will feel like a missed opportunity given the control and pressure they applied in the first half after going 1-0 down.
Post-match reaction
Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson:
"I thought in the first 10-15 minutes we didn't come out and switch the play quickly enough, then after that and the goal, I thought we played really well up until half time.
"I felt we played exactly how we needed to and had chances. The start of the second half, we were outstanding for five minutes, we really looked on it, then the medical emergency happened.
"I really hope the person is OK, that's the most important thing. We had a period where we gave the ball away too cheaply too many times. You can't compound a mistake with another mistake. We just needed to reset ourselves quicker."
Norwich City boss Philippe Clement:
"A lot of respect to Wrexham who are playing a really good season, they won their last five games and beat a Premier League team (Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup) so it's a really hard place to come.
"But we came with confidence, belief and the right energy. This is the confirmation of the training week that I saw.
"It's a massive win, it's an important win and it's a good statement that we want to compete with the best teams in the league."
Philippe Clement: "That win was for the fans and the club"
