    Deadline day

Phew. After nearly 14 hours it's about time to close this transfer window once and for all.

While the Premier League window might have been a damp squib, the EFL was a slow-burner which really caught light once the official 7pm deadline had passed.

The main news early on deadline day was not an incoming but an outgoing - Blackburn sacking manager Valerien Ismael with his side floundering in the Championship relegation zone.

However things got going with Kalvin Phillips and Joe Rothwell heading to Bramall Lane to try and help salvage Sheffield United's season while Derby signed Sammie Szmodics on loan from Ipswich, Pompey forward Callum Lang made a club-record switch to Preston and Wrexham snapped up Sheffield Wednesday attacker Bailey Cadamarteri and Barnsley forward Davis Keillor-Dunn.

Southampton lost leading scorer Adam Armstrong to Wolves while Brentford's Frank Onyeka took the opposite path, joining Championship leaders Coventry while Bristol City, Birmingham, Norwich, Portsmouth, West Brom and Stoke all bolstered their ranks ahead of the Championship run-in.

Thanks for your company throughout an absorbing day, we'll do it all over again on 31 August, shall we?

Until then, there are matters on the pitch to resolve, we'll be back tomorrow night for a bonus night of action with 11 games across the Championship, League One and League Two.

Rest up now and we'll see you then!
