Love the look of the squad. Insane depth being built, but what does Beno Obano have to do to get a look in?

    Ian M

Mistake not calling up Fasogbon, you can't teach his size which will be necessary when facing the Boks later down the line.

  12. Saracens boss McCall to step down at end of seasonpublished at 13:04 GMT

Meanwhile, in other big rugby news Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall has announced he will step down at the end of the season after 15 trophy-laden years in the job.

Sarries won three European Champions Cups and six Prem titles during an era of dominance under the former Ireland centre.

Brendan Venter, who recruited McCall as head coach in 2009, will take over, reprising the role he held more than a decade and a half ago.

McCall will join the board of directors and continue at the club in the technical advisor position previously occupied by Venter.

"I'm immensely proud of what we've achieved at Saracens and grateful for the opportunity to have led the rugby programme for so long," said McCall.

In stark contrast to the French, we still have George, Daly, and Spencer involved when we should be turning to players who will be in their prime at the next World Cup.

  14. 'No-brainer to pick phenomenal athlete Sela'published at 12:57 GMT

    England Six Nations squad

    Chris Ashton
    Former England wing

Billy Sela is an interesting one. I've not seen him train in person yet but I've heard he's a phenomenal athlete so getting him in is a no-brainer to see how he goes.

Aside from that it's a pretty consistent squad and it feels like we're building towards the World Cup. You don't want too many changes but are sticking with what we've got because we're happy with it and have won games.

Quite frankly three or four years ago England might have had an excuse for not winning a Grand Slam. After what England achieved last year, Grand Slam or bust. NO excuses!!!!!!!!!

  16. Furbank or Steward?published at 12:52 GMT

    England Six Nations squad

Northampton full-back George Furbank looked set to be Steve Borthwick's 15 after a number of good performances in 2024.

However, injuries have since halted his progress and opened the door again for Freddie Steward, who started three Tests in November.

Both are different in style, but Steward's running game has vastly improved.

Furbank is more of a 10/15 and an extra ball player.

He has just four senior appearances for Northampton this season because of calf issues, with a start against Sale on December 20 his most recent outing.

In form he seems to be the man. That has been a while though, with his last Test coming in 2024.

  17. 'It's been tough for Dombrandt'published at 12:47 GMT

    England Six Nations squad

    Chris Jones
    BBC rugby union correspondent

Q - Is this the end of Alex Dombrant's England career?

I wouldn't go that far Edward. But it's been tough for Dombrandt, he hasn't quite been able to replicate his club form on the international scene. But if anything happens to Fisilau or Earl then he would be next in line.

  18. 'World Cup-winning teams tend to have an average squad age of about 29'published at 12:44 GMT

    England Six Nations squad

    Chris Jones
    BBC rugby union correspondent

Q - How many of this current crop do you expect to feature at RWC27? In your view, is this a squad to genuinely compete for the 6N or is the primary focus on building depth?

I hope this isn't a cop-out answer Rory, but it's both. World Cup-winning teams tend to have an average squad age of about 29, and Steve Borthwick will be very wary of the age profile and cap numbers in his squad as he builds towards 2027. But this is definitely a squad picked with the aim of winning the Six Nations. England haven't won it in six years and haven't won a Slam in a decade. That needs to change.

  19. 'Willis a big blow'published at 12:41 GMT

    England Six Nations squad

    Chris Jones
    BBC rugby union correspondent

Q- Just getting your views on how big of a miss will Tom Willis be to England in the upcoming future?

It's a big blow Alex. Since Billy Vunipola, England haven't had an out-and-out ball-carrying number eight, and Willis fitted that bill and was getting better and better. But despite not being a classic eight, how well does Ben Earl do in that shirt for England? And if Earl plays there, then there is an extra spot on the flank which is England's position of the most strength in depth.

  20. 'Balance of youth and experience'published at 12:39 GMT

    England Six Nations squad

    Chris Jones
    BBC rugby union correspondent

Q - Struggling to see the logic in picking Trevor Davidson, he is 4/5 choice probably in the pecking order and at 33 isn't a player for the future. Would Fasogbon not have been a better choice to be involved in this camp?

Yes he's 33, but those miles on the clock are very valuable given the injury to Will Stuart and the prop rookies in the squad. As ever, Borthwick will be looking for a balance of youth and experience.
