Hole 1 at Royal Troon
Seal, 361 yards, par four

Ken Brown
By Ken Brown
BBC TV golf commentator

A gentle par four to start, often playing down breeze.

If the wind is strong some players may try and drive the green but for most the two bunkers on the left will be in play.

The slightly elevated green is protected by bunkers with the pin often tucked in tight behind them.

This kind starter should average well under its par four.

Named after a chain of rocks on which seals can sometimes be seen at low tide.
