'Turning the Pages'

The Lindisfarne Gospels have inspired audiences past and present with their spiritual message, their artistic skill and their great beauty.

Turning the Pages
One of the electronic versions of the Gospels at Woodhorn Colliery Museum, Ashington

Now an electronic version of the gospels gives you the opportunity to see the manuscript in greater detail than would normally be possible.

Using a combination of digitized images and touch screen technology visitors can literally turn the pages of the gospels on display. You can even zoom in for a closer look to see more of this incredible national treasure.

This unique electronic viewing system was developed by specialist staff at The British Library in response to the question many visitors to the galleries asked "what do the rest of the gospels look like?".

The virtual gospels mean they can be viewed by thousands of people without damaging or degrading the original.
