Any BBC apps you download to your mobile or TV can access certain data on your device.
Some data gets collected automatically, like:
- The types of mobile device youāre using
- A āunique identifierā (like the device ID or an IP address)
- Info about how our apps are being used.
This lets the app remember you and give you whatever content youāve asked for.
Some apps will ask for your permission (consent), to use your data to provide additional features. For example, the BBC Weather app asks to use your deviceās location, (Town/City level), to give you, local weather. The BBC Weather app does not share your deviceās location. Your deviceās location or āsearchedā location is stored on your device for a period of 4-6 hours, the BBC does not store your information. You can turn this on or off at any time via your deviceās settings.
To be on the safe side...
Make sure you read the permissions section of any app before you download it. Itās the best way of understanding exactly what data it will capture.
Apps may store info on your device too
For instance, if you download a programme in the iPlayer mobile app, itāll get stored on your device.
