Kraft, Danone, Kelloggs, Nestle and PepsiCo have all decided to use their own system using percentages.

Hazel Lake, 65, from Notting Hill, London, believes it is not enough.

"What's in food and how food is processed is a much bigger issue than just putting it on labels.

"These labels will mean nothing to most people."
