When Cordelia's date for the May Queen pageant is savagely beaten Buffy and the gang discover that a missing pupil, Marcie Ross, (Clea Duvall) might be responsible.
Strangely, even though Marcie's copy of the school yearbook has messages from Xander and Willow, no-one remembers her. In fact Marcie has been rendered invisible, and driven insane with jealousy, by a combination of people's indifference and energy from the Hellmouth.
Marcie ruins Cordelia's moment of glory at the pageant, culminating with Cordelia and Buffy being captured and threatened with mutilation: "I'm going to give you a face no-one will ever forget!" Buffy manages to overpower Marcie, who is led away by FBI agents and put into a class for invisible assassins.
