Man in his 70s dies in house fire

A man in his 70s has died in a fire at a house in the Waterside area of Londonderry, the Police Service of Northern Ireland has said.

Firefighters from Derry and Strabane plus two specialist rescue teams from Belfast spent more than two hours tackling the fire on the Limavady Road on Sunday afternoon.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the man died at the scene.

The police are investigating the circumstances of the fire but are not treating it as suspicious. Part of the road was closed while firefighters dealt with the fire, but it has since reopened.
