It took 40 firefighters more than six hours to put out a fire at a farm on the outskirts of Londonderry on Thursday.

The fire broke out and spread through five large agricultural sheds behind a house in Ballyarnett, a rural area near Shantallow.

Part of the road, not far from the border with Donegal in the Republic of Ireland, was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said no injuries had been reported and the fire is believed to have started accidentally.

Emergency services received an initial call about the incident shortly before 06:30 GMT on Thursday morning.

NIFRS Group Commander Barry Sands said crews had been deployed from Derry, Strabane, Limavady, Dungiven, Dungannon, Pomeroy and Kilrea.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used 3 jets and 2 hose reel jets to put the fire out.
