Personality is vital for any type of presenting

Ravi Sagoo

Ravi Sagoo - Radio Presenter

Ravi Sagoo beat off competition from 700 aspiring broadcasters in 2005 to work as a radio presenter on the BBC Asian Network.

In August 2007 Ravi was signed by BBC Radio Scotland Sport to present coverage of the first one day international cricket match and in March 2008 he charts the history of Asian and BME (Black and Ethinc Minority) officers in the Scottish Police Force.

Here he looks back on the last 18 months. In our advice section Ravi provides some tips for anyone wanting to become a presenter.

Q1. What do you think made you stand out from the rest when applying for the New Presenter scheme?

Personality is vital for any type of presenting, be it radio or TV. Researching the station was also important.

Q2. Tell us about your time on the Asian Network.

Taking over from Bobby Friction on the Chart Show left me flabbergasted. God, what a deep learning curve!

Q3. What is it like presenting live on the radio?

The buzz is unbelieveable. I love live radio...its spontaneity, the rush...

Q4. Name your influences.

I admire people like Zane Lowe who really know their music...but the list would be too wide and varied for me...

Ravi is currently working with BBC Radio Scotland on his own show 'Ravi Sagoo Presents..' as well as pursuing his goals in both radio and television presenting.

He is heading to New York later this year to present Tartan Week, a series of events promoting Scotland in the Big Apple.
