Here Ravi offers advice for anyone wanting to become a radio presenter and in our success section Ravi talks about his time on the BBC Asian Network.
Q1. What advice would you give anyone hoping to get into radio presenting? Make your demo tapes individual. Get your breaks in the summer months when music festivals are on. Hone your skills collecting vox pops. Get into production - you'll learn the basics of programme making. Listen to the radio. Apply for jobs. Make sure you have your annual appraisals. Keep a dialogue with New Talent. Be vocal if you feel you're not getting enough support. Don't be shy in saying what you want to do. Network. You have to be proactive. Q3. Is there such a thing as a station house style or is personality still the key to success? Every presenter on the Asian Network was different. If you can deliver a programme to someone who is 16 and another to someone who is 52 that's great. Q4. Have you always wanted to be a radio presenter? From my early teens I have always wanted to be a presenter... I love this job to bits. I want to continue down this path. Ravi's success story |
