Ibiza is officially open.
Radio 1 landed on the White Island to host opening parties on the beach - and the hands in the air massive were there - in force. But as well as having it large, this year's clubbers are getting lessons in how to be nicer people and respect the party island. Radio 1's Georgina Bowman was there. Watch Georgina's report

Like a kick in the Balearics, the Ibiza season started with a bang this weekend. But even though the emphasis, as always, is hedonistic clubbing at its best, this year, along with your glowstick and appropriate club-wear, we're being asked to pack a bit of common sense in our suitcases as well. And in amongst the opening parties, Radio 1 launched a new campaign - Friends Of Ibiza.
It's not being patronising and telling you to wear factor 20 and be nice to the barmen - just saying respect yourselves, respect each other and respect Ibiza. Also, have a bit of respect for the locals - and get yourself away from the pubs for a bit - and explore.
It's not the only campaign running this year. The notoriously lethal Ibiza Town to San Antonio Road, where two of the island's biggest clubs, Amnesia and Privilege are, is getting speed restrictions and lights to cut the numbers of clubbers being knocked down and killed.
Radio 1's Opening Parties
Updated: 24 June 2001
Ibiza is now officially open - Radio 1 is holding the opening party tonight (Sat) at the Cafe del Mar. A stage has been set up on the beach, and Seb Fontaine will be coming live from there at five and Judge Jules at seven in the evening. Practically every DJ will be hot-footing it out there at some time during the next few months.
Sander Kleinenberg told Radio 1 he's got a pretty heavy schedule but insists he doesn't just go out there to work:
'Even when I'm DJ-ing I usually stick around for hours and hours until someone swipes me out of the club saying 'Please go home now' and I'm like 'But I can still hear music.'
New bars on the scene
Updated: 24 June 2001
There's a big emphasis on bars in Ibiza this year, particularly beach bars - they don't necessarily have the big-name DJs but they do create an intimate atmosphere.
New bars this year include Coastline, which has two swimming pools, two jacuzzis and sand shipped in from the Sahara which took four days to pour.
Meanwhile, London celebrity haunt, Chinawhite, have opened a bar called Mao on the island, so that's probably where the rich and glamorous will hang out.
But DJ Lottie reckons if you fancy something different you should make it your business to find out where the secret beach parties are:
"Last year I went to the after parties put on by the Italians and the Spanish and there was such an exciting vibe. You walk to the secret beach location and the music there is quite inspirational."
Stars jet into Ibiza
Updated: 24 June 2001
The stars have already started to arrive in Ibiza. Jade Jagger and Johnny Lee Miller have already been spotted queuing like everybody else.
Also, Brad from 'Neighbours' and Peter Stringfellow have been seen out and about.
Guest DJs heading to Ibiza this year include Sister Bliss, Dane Bowers and Danny Tenaglia.
Fatboy Slim's going out for three weeks, and Darren Emerson and Erick Morillo are taking their Subliminal Sessions to Pacha every Wednesday.
Roisin searches for glamour
Updated: 22 June 2001
Roisin from Moloko will be heading straight there - she told Radio 1 funky house and glitz is what she's looking for:
"I like Pacha 'cos it's so glamorous. It makes you feel like you're at a proper disco with glamorous people, and it's very European - very down my alley."
Ready to rave?

Carl Cox's Ibizan birthday
Updated: 22 June 2001
Carl Cox is heading out to Ibiza. And this year, he's got reasons to celebrate: "I'm actually going to be going there for my birthday on the 28th and 29th of July." He's warning everyone to have their presents at the ready. And if you want to deliver it in person, here's where he'll be:
"I'm going to be doing a party at Amnesia, Cocoon night to celebrate and hopefully recover from that to do some more!" he says.
'The Good Ship Manumission' doin' it for charidy...
Updated: 20 June 2001
Manumission went off with a bang on Monday as their opening party attracted huge crowds as expected. This year's opening party was a charity event with the proceeds going towards the purchase of an ambulance. Whilst other clubs on the island boast the biggest DJ names on their roster, Manumission continues in the tradition of not naming the DJs playing. The theme for this year is 'The Good Ship Manumission'.
