What were the
houses like?

A Skara Brae Hearth

There is a large fireplace or hearth made up of stone blocks in the centre of the room. The hearth was very important as it provided warmth, light, heat for cooking and was even used to burn rubbish. It's likely that the fire would have been kept alight at all times. Why do you think the fire was in the centre of the room?
