Northern Ireland (St Andrews Agreement) Bill
AIM
The bill provides for the restoration of the Assembly and the devolved institutions on 26 March 2007.
It also repeals the Northern Ireland Act 2000.
MAIN PROVISIONS
Create a new transitional assembly to operate from the 24th November and the date of full restoration
Seek an "endorsement by the electorate" of the St. Andrews Agreement
Amend the Northern Ireland Act 1998 in relation to the operation of the Assembly, inparticular providing for a statutory ministerial code and changing the procedure for appointing the First and Deputy First Minister
Place a duty on a future restored executive to develop strategies in relation to Irish and Ulster Scots language, poverty and social exclusion
The executive must report to the Secretary of State one year after restoration to update him on progress towards the devolution of policing and justice matters
The Education (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 will be amended so that the prohibition of academic selection doesn�t come into effect until devolution is restored
