Putting the excitement into late night radio

Adil Ray - Part two
Here Adil shares some of his memorable moments on air and tells us how his late night show all comes together.
In part one we heard about the early days of Adil's career and in part three you can hear about the radio industry in general and its comparisons to the world of television.
Q6. What's been your most embarrassing moment on air?
I interviewed Jay Sean at the time when he was a little known British Asian artist… I was comparing him to Craig David, as a lot of people in the industry were, and by mistake I called him Craig - which was very much the wrong thing to do!
Q7. How about the most memorable moment?
Sometimes it's not about the person or how famous they are, it's about how important an interview is at the time. That interview with Jay Sean was at such a critical time for British Asian music… and we still get asked to replay it almost two years on.
Q8. How much audience interaction is involved in your show?
It was really important that we recognised that a lot of other radio stations do not cater for a large Asian audience... we have built on that in terms of asking for text messages, emails and calls and it's now a heavy part of the show.
Q9. How much say do you have in what music is played on the show?
Because we are regarded as a specialist show I'm lucky because I do have a lot of input… one of the reasons I was brought on was my musical knowledge.
Q10. Tell us about your audience.
Age wise it's described as being 15-24yr olds but I actually think it's more like 11-40yr olds... C'mon mums and dads - you know you're listening.
