What can the
special places tell us?
Maeshowe was built around the same time as Skara Brae. Human remains, like skeletons and piles of jumbled bones were found inside similar tombs. The dead were important to the people of this time, perhaps they were still thought of as part of the community. Maeshowe was a particularly well built tomb. It seems likely that very important people would have been buried there. What ceremonies do you think might have taken place at Maeshowe?
