오늘은 기분을 표현할 때 쓸 수 있는 다양한 표현을 배워보도록 하겠습니다. 알아듣지 못해도 걱정하지 마세요. 저희가 조금 있다 도와드릴게요. 먼저 세 사람이 뭐라고 말하는지 들어보고 어떤 감정을 표현하고 있는지 맞춰보세요.

I’m relaxed because I have the day off.
I’m bored because I don't have anything to do.
I’m excited because it’s the weekend.

이해하셨나요? 첫번째 사람이 relaxed 여유로운 이라고 했네요. 두번째 사람은 bored 지겨운 세번째 사람은 excited 신난 이런 표현을 썼습니다.

But they also provide reasons about why they feel this way.

그럼 Tom, 감정을 어떻게 표현하는지 다같이 살펴볼까요?

Yes, let’s do that!

먼저, I’m 이렇게 문장이 시작하는데요. 이 다음에 어떤 감정이 드는지를 표현할 수 있는 단어를 씁니다. 한 번 발음해주시겠어요? Tom?

Of course! All the words used by the speakers to describe feelings end in the letters ‘ed’, but these have different sounds!

‘Relaxed’ ends in a /t/ sound. Say it with me

Did you get it? Bored ends with a /d/ sound. Say it with me

이제 마지막 사람의 말을 들어볼게요. 마지막 단어가 어떻게 발음되나요?
I’m excited.

Tom
That one was a strong sound! Excited ends with an /Id/ sound. Say it with me

좋습니다. 아주 좋은 발음이었어요. 모든 사람들이 어떤 기분을 느끼는지를 표현하고 있는데요. 여기서 이 기분은 상황 때문에 생긴 기분이었죠. 그래서 because 왜냐하면 을 써서 그 상황을 설명해줬습니다. 들어볼게요.

I’m relaxed because I have the day off.

첫번째 사람이 the day off 하루 휴가를 냈기 때문에 relaxed 여유로운 기분이라고 했습니다. 만약 어떤 것이 우리가 어떤 기분이 들게 만든다 라고 말하고 싶다면 ing형태로 써주면 됩니다. 여기서는 a day off 휴가가 여유로운 기분을 들게 해주는 거니까 relax 뒤에 ing를 붙이면 되겠죠?

네 –ed 끝나는 형태의 형용사를 사용해서 자신의 기분을 설명 했죠. 하지만 무언가가 우리에게 어떤 기분이 들게 만든다 라는 것을 표현할 때는 ing 형태의 형용사를 사용하는 것 기억하시죠? 그럼 월요일은 지루하다 를 어떻게 말할까요?

So, the weekend makes him feel excited. How can we describe the weekend using –ing?
That’s right! Exciting! Say it with me. ‘The weekend is exciting’!

That’s right! Learning is exciting, which means that I’m excited.
