오늘은 무엇에 대해 얘기할 지 한 번 맞춰보시겠어요? 일단 자신의 대해서 얘기하는 사람들의 이야기를 들어보세요. 주제가 무엇일까요? 

1. I started primary school when I was 6.
2. I left high school when I was 18 to go to university.
3. I graduated from Manchester University and I got a degree in engineering.
4. I left secondary school when I was 16 and I went to college, where I got a certificate in business.

모두 자신이 받은 교육에 대해 말하고 있죠?

Sam
Yes, they used lots of different ways to talk about education. So let’s have a closer look!

Bolam
먼저 교육기관의 이름을 살펴볼까요? 먼저, primary school 초등학교, secondary school 중학교, high school 고등학교, college, university 대학교.. 이렇게 있죠.

Sam
And what verbs did they use with these places? Let’s listen again – the verbs will come before the schools.

I started primary school when I was 6.
I left secondary school when I was 16 and I went to college.

Started 시작했다, left 졸업했다, went to 다녔다.. 등의 동사를 사용했네요.

Sam
And these verbs are all in the past simple. Shall we practise the pronunciation? Please repeat after me:

I started primary school when I was 6.

I left secondary school when I was 16…

…and I went to college.

자 went 뒤에 to를 썼습니다. 그리고 교육기관 앞에는 the 를 사용하지 않습니다. 다시 한 번 들어볼까요? 두 번 사용한 동사가 무엇인지 들어보세요.

I graduated from Manchester University.
I got a degree in engineering.
I got a certificate in business.

Did you hear it? The verb they used twice was ‘got’.

네. ‘got a degree in engineering’ 공학 학위를 받았다, ‘got a certificate in business’ 경영학 증명서를 받았다, 이 표현에서 ‘a degree’, ‘a certificate’ 뒤에 in을 쓰고 어떤 종류이 학위인지 설명해줬습니다. 그리고 graduated 졸업했다.. 라는 단어를 쓰기도 했네요.

And after ‘graduated’, it’s important to remember to use ‘from’ before the name of the place.

아, 그리고 나이를 말할 때 어떻게 말했죠? 다시 한 번 들어볼게요.

I started primary school when I was 6.
I left high school when I was 18.
I left secondary school when I was 16.

모두 when I was를 사용하고 뒤에 나이를 써줬네요.
