오늘은 누군가의 초대에 응할 때 쓸 수 있는 표현을 배워보도록 하겠습니다. 먼저 Cinema 영화관에 같이 가자는 제안에 대답을 먼저 들어볼까요? 알아듣지 못해도 걱정하지 마세요. 잠시후에 저희가 도와드릴게요. 일단 누가 제안에 응했고 누가 거절했는지 한 번 들어보세요.

Would you like to come to the cinema with us on Friday?

• That sounds great!
• Amazing! I’d love that.

이해하셨나요? 모든 사람이 아주 흔쾌히 제안을 받아들였네요. 그럼  Sam 우리 방금 들었던 것 처럼 친구가 무엇을 제안했을 때 어떻게 대답할 수 있는지 관련 표현을 같이 살펴볼까요?

모든 사람들의 대답에서 yes 라고 직접적으로 말하지 않고도 초대에 응했죠? 여러분도 눈치채혔나요? 대답 중 하나를 다시 한번 들어볼게요. Yes 그래! 라는 말 대신 어떻게 대답죠?

That sounds great!

네 ‘That sounds great’ 아주 좋아~라는 뜻이죠. 여기서 great 대신에 다른 형용사들도 쓸 수 있어요. 그렇죠 Sam?

Sam
Definitely! You can use ‘that sounds good’ or ‘that sounds lovely’ or ‘that sounds wonderful’ all with a very positive meaning. Now, let’s practise the pronunciation! Repeat after me:

여러분도 들으셨나요? 여기서 두사람 모두 I’d love라는 표현을 사용했네요. I’d는 두 단어가 축약된 형태로  I와 would를 줄여서 쓰는 말인데요. 여기다 love를 붙여서 무엇을 하고 싶다 라는 뜻으로 쓰입니다.

Yes! Can you also explain to our listeners what happens after ‘love’?

물론이죠. ‘I’d love to come’을 줄여서 come을 빼고 ‘I’d love to’이렇게만 말할 수도 있습니다. 동사 come은 이미 앞에서 나왔기 때문에 또 반복할 필요가 없기 때문이죠.

…or you can say ‘I’d love that!’, which has the same meaning.

맞아요! ‘I’d love to’ 그리고 ‘I’d love to come’ 그리고 ‘I’d love that’ 모두 같은 뜻으로 쓰일 수 있습니다.

‘Amazing’ 놀라운, 굉장한, 이런 뜻인데요. 이 형용사는 물론 ‘lovely’ ‘wonderful’ ‘great’ 이런 표현도 같은 방식으로 사용할 수 있겠습니다.
