안녕하세요 Sam, 안녕하세요 Kee. 이번 주 에피소드에서는 우리가 직장을 다니는 것이 좋은 것인지 안 좋은 것인지에 대해 알아보겠습니다. 이번에도 조사를 통해 흥미로운 정보를 찾았는데요, BBC Radio 5Live 가 영국에 있는 성인들에게 설문조사를 했습니다. 남성과 여성 중 어떤 그룹이 직장을 더 즐겁게 다니고 있을까요? 남성일까요 여성일까요? 정답은 잠시 후에 알려드리겠습니다. 그럼 먼저 이 주제와 관련된 Radio 4 의 뉴스를 들어보겠습니다.

Are you happy in your job? That's the question? Do you enjoy going to work? Well, it may surprise you to learn, that most of us do, most of the time. Radio 5 live commissioned a survey from COMRes and that's what they found. According to the survey, nearly 80% of people say that they are proud of their work, and 68% say they enjoying working most days.

Sam
Did you hear that, most people are happy to go to work, it’s surprising – but that’s good news, isn’t it?

Kee
Well, it’s definitely a surprise! Who are these people? I work to make money, but enjoy it, really?

Sam
You not enjoying something is no surprise, but I’m not sure this report is so surprising, either – we spend so much time at work, we should make sure that we have job satisfaction.

Seunghoon
여기서 Job satisfaction는 직무 만족도 입니다.

Sam
Yes, that’s right - job satisfaction is how happy you are in your job.

Seunghoon
I’ve got good job satisfaction. I love the job I do, what about you guys?

Sam
Yes, this is great – it’s so rewarding being able to make radio programmes.

Seunghoon
저도 동의 해요 – 무엇이 rewarding 한다는 건, 그 것이 보람이 있다는 뜻입니다.

Kee
I am happy that you two both feel that your jobs are so rewarding….

Sam
Thanks….

Seunghoon
But?

Kee
…but, I don’t really feel the same way. I just never feel that I’m appreciated for what I do.

Seunghoon
‘Appreciated’ 고마움을 못 느낀다는 건가요?

Kee
No-one ever says thank you – they never tell us what they think about the programmes, it’s almost like they don’t notice.

Sam
You’re right. It’s definitely very important to be appreciated at work.
I’m just not sure that’s true for us here. Didn’t you hear all those things they said at our last meeting? We got loads of feedback - I found that really motivating.

Seunghoon
맞아요 정말 ‘motivating’ 동기부여가 많이 되었어요. 긍정적인 피드백이 일을 더 열심히 하게 하고 더 좋은 프로그램도 만들 수 있도록 힘을 준 것 같았어요.

Look, what motivates me is being able to finish my work and go home and forget about it.

이쯤에서 오늘 퀴즈의 정답을 알려드리겠습니다. 그럼 남성과 여성 중 어느 그룹이 직장을 즐겁게 다닐까요? 정답은…여성 이었습니다. 설문조사결과 여성은 74% 가, 그리고 남성은 63% 가 일하러 가는 것이 즐겁고 좋다고 답했다고 합니다.

Sam
I’m sorry you don’t enjoy coming to work, Kee. It sounds like you’re feeling quite stressed.

Seunghoon
네 그런 것 같아요. ‘Stressed’ 는 스트레스를 받았다는 뜻 입니다.

Sam
But there’s no need for you to feel stressed. They said so many positive things about you in the meeting.

Kee
Did they?

Sam
They said so many good things about you! Yes, that you can be moody at times but they also said you’re a team player and you’re a very hard worker.

Kee
Well, I suppose I do work hard.

Sam
Do you feel a little bit more appreciated now?

Kee
Uhm, a little. Look, let’s get back to work, eh?
